YELLOW baby will NOT eat

vferra7777 Feb 17, 2004 07:33 PM

I need help. I have one. I checked HIM out and he seems fine. He is in a BARRS 24" plastic cage with cyprus mulch that is sprayed daily. He has a large water bowl on the hot end (about 88 degrees) and a hide box on the cool end (about 80 degrees). I have tried live rat pups, mice, chickens, and fish. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail to vferra7777@cs.com or call 804.763.4443. Thnak you, Vinny Off The Ark Exotic Pets

First, don't get in a rush or big hurry. Like everyone says, baby anacondas can survive months and months before eating as long as they are in average shape.

I've had superb success with taking a dead mouse, put it baggie, put in hot water in a jar for 15 minutes. Don't get it too hot, but definitely warmer than you. This is how I got my little green to eat, he went about a month without feeding at first. You'd be surprised how that heat makes a difference.
Good luck.

` I give my Yellows access to temperatures from the low 70s, to the high 80s. They are usually to be found in the cooler areas.

Just a few ideas.
Like many have read, my baby green wouldnt eat for 9 MONTHS when I first got her. She is now eating like a piggy and has been for the past 7 feedings now. TONIGHT IS FEEDING AGAIN! YAY!
#1 if you can fit a kitty litter box in that cage use taht for her water. They tend to like to be able to freely move around in the water. They love the water hence the name "water boa".
Check your local dollar store for one first! Thats where I get mine.
#2 if you are able to do this, try putting in a Fogger in the water. Mine Absolutely loves the fog on the water surface. She feels so safe and secure and its awsome to watch her sneak up on her food underneath the fogs surface! PS.I'll try to get some pics of that!
#3 try braining teh food item! Its nasty but it works!
Take a knife or something you dont care about getting yuky and stick it in the dead mouses mouth and out through the top of the head. Then smear the brains all over its head and body. Ewww right? IT WORKS!
I tried this with a thawed baby bunnie that had been in my freezer for like 4 months that just smelled like feezer burn or something. She swiped it up so fast all I saw was a blurr!
#4 place a rock or something next to the water bowl (asuming its big enough for her to get into and eat in,which it should be!)
and place the food item on the rock or whatever you choose with its head hanging over the side of the water dish and over the water.
This is how anacondas hunt. They remain in the water and ambush thier prey and drown it.

Hopefully theese things will help. They did the trick with mine.
