Photoshoot! Aren't they cute?

BryanR. Feb 17, 2004 08:06 PM

Took some pictures of my 3 FBT's (I just lost my 4th when amazingly he escapted a 29 gallon tank by climbing up a cord through a 1 inch wide hole in the pegboard top, tragically he was found dead near by, I fixed that problem though, first FBT casulity in 5 years).

These were taking in a tubawear container outside of the tank.

All my males are named Bubba, and all my females are named Bertha, I dont know if she really is a female though, shes just really fat, not as bumpy, and they all want to mount her. But she never wants to accept it, she always pulls away. So Im going to get another female, because I really want to breed them.

All 3 of them:

Awww~! You have some toadally adorable Firebellies there! =D (S'cuse the pun, couldn't help it.) Are they hard to care for? I saw some in the pet store a little while ago and I was thinking of getting some sometime, they're just so cute.

Nah, there probably the easiest amphibian to care for, or one of the easiest. You can have approx. 2 per 10 gallons, but if you have like a 50 gallon tank you can probably have more then 10. They eat a diet of crickets, fed maybe 2-3 times a week. There very hardy too. Currently I have the 3 of mine in a 29 gallon tank, and I have Duckweed and pothos and Java moss growing. I also have about 6 inches of water, that leads up to a shallow 1-2" area, and then a little bit of land (which is gravel for now, but the Java moss will cover it up eventually). In the water currently is 4 Algea Eating fish, and you have to be careful with fish in a FBT tank since FBT's are slightly toxic. Water changes, and a filter help this problem though. Personally I hardly ever do full water changes, because it hardly ever seems to matter since I have so much water, and only 3 frogs. I just add more water when the water level goes below a certain line. But I probably should change the water more frequently now that I'm introducing fish.
