To be perfectly honest, I do not like it. I really like the idea of the boots, but the feel of this logo is very "high school photoshop project" as it is very cut and paste. If you have access or know anyone with illustrator experience you may be able to ge the same idea in a better logo. Good luck.

So, what you're suggesting is to just get rid of the photos, but leave the "The Gecko Barn" and "Click to Enter"?

I also work in a high school - i teach art - sculpture and AP specifically. What i was saying is i liked the drawing with the boots and hat on top - but the overall feel to the image is very cut and paste like. It would be nice to see some organic quality to it (that is, more curves than just squares).

I also agree with the comment that the text is a bit hard to see in spots, so you may want to consider a different color, or embossing the text.

good luck

I really should clean this up around his ear and stuff, but I was learning how to use Illustrator while making this.

One thing I'd suggest for the logo might be to put a contour around the writing, I find it a little hard to make out the letters in places.

cheers

How do you get Illustrator? It's Adobe, right? I think the only Adobe program I have (for pics, that is) is Adobe Photoshop. I also have Picture It Express (yeah, it came with the comp...) and ULead Photo Explorer (came with my webcam lol). Paint, too..

And I've been trying to get something that'll stand out more... But Picture It doesn't give me that many options, and ULead doesn't give me any text options at all.

OH And on Adobe Photoshop, is there any way to save it in like .jpg or .gif??? It doesn't give me the option, so i'm figuring not, but I guess I can always hope, right???

Depends on what version you have. If you have 7.0 you can "Save Optimized" or "Save for Web". And it will be a .jpg or .gif.

*sigh* I have 3.0 Let me guess - it'll cost $$$$$$$$$$ to upgrade to 7.0, right?!

WELLL... I'll survive.. In the meantime, How does THIS logo look? I made it using Adobe, and then pasting it into Frontpage and saving it, and then added the text in Picture It Express.. lol i know - pain in the neck.. or in the case, boot...

I like that better than the other way...I think it would be really cool if there was a little gecko head poking out from under the hat or something....lol

I started on photoshop 3 or 4, I'm not really sure which version it was but I know it was about 10 years ago
You should be able to save as gif/jpg, if it isn't available in the box under where you type the file name, I think the image mode might have something to do with it in the old versions.
Click on image/mode/and set it to rgb. I'm not sure, but I think if it is on index mode it can mess up saving as jpg/gif in the old versions.

.... I think lol

good luck!

Well! I figured out how to save it as .jpg! File-->Export-->File Format. I was all like YAY!!!

And then I was disappointed again...

Apparently, you have to have like 32 MB of RAM free. Well, I'm on a laptop which, apparently from what I can figure out, does not have that much room! ARGH...

And THEN I figured out how to just save as .gif! And it WORKED! YAY!!!
But it saved it at 144 KB, and it didn't save the letters along with it. The Picture It pictures were way smaller...

Well, I guess more fiddling is at hand!!! Wish me luck!!!

(and I'm gonna see if I can cut out a gecko...)

thegeckobarn Feb 19, 2004 09:39 AM

I FINALLY Convinced Adobe to let me save as a .jpg!!!

And I cut out one of my geckos for it - and it looks too cool I'd show y'all, but I'm at school (I have my laptop with me, but it's not connected to the internet here). I'll post my finished product when I get home later, and get MORE opinions, I hope

to save as gif or jpg you have to compress the image by flattening all the levels.

I don't remember using then until photoshop 5.
maybe I just didn't know how to use it back then

but you don't have to flatten or merge layers to save as jpg, it will just export whatever layers are visible at the time you 'save as' in photoshop 6 & 7.

thegeckobarn Feb 19, 2004 09:37 AM

I can't think of another word for it.. One of these things is what will be on the entrance page of our site.

livxpreshun Feb 19, 2004 05:19 PM

I cannot get any of the images to come up. Feel free to post them sometime - I try to read this site at least every other day. TTYS

I think I posted the links to them...

One is http://www.thegeckobarn.com/images/boots1.jpg
and the other is http://www.thegeckobarn.com/images/Boots3.JPG

These are NOT the final product. Just slightly different feels.. I'm working on getting the gecko in there in a more "Not-High-Schoolish" way....

hmm...maybe try just the one that's climbing over the front of the boot, but make it the same scale as the boots, so it's just sorta pokin' out...lol I think that would be cute

Yeah.. I was thinking that, too...

But I do like the idea of a giant gecko "peeking" out from under the boot... lol

www.thegeckobarn.com/images/boots6.jpg

OK I kept the 2 geckos, but I added a tail to wrap around And some shading.. so they don't look quite so out of place!

And for anyone who's wondering, it's supposed to look like it's an old photo... That's why it's so "noisy"

StinaUIUC Feb 19, 2004 11:12 PM

lol...the big guy on the bottom is pretty cute...The other one looks out of place though...I dunno
