Ember Jemfire

shasha369 Feb 17, 2004 11:16 PM

Got a new Beardie on Fri. Saw a colorful picture on the net and purchased a Female of 4-5 months. My question is that even though she has calmed down since her arrival and is eatting well. her temp.s are fine 80.3 to 110. She does not have a tiny hint of color. My normal Beardies are more colorful. Does any one know if the Ember Jemfires have any special needs or are they just wierd. I do not understand why there is not even a tiny hint of color anywhere.

Believe me- I am not an expert but I had to ask. Do you think she is about to shed? I know it takes a while for them to really feel at ease with their surrounding so it might be that also. I notice that there are times that my beardie is dull and she is just looking at us- as soon as we play with her she is so bright! Its like night and day. I'm sure you have been handeling her some- how is then? Again- no way near an expert but your problem makes me wonder what I should do in your place. I have a new beardie coming Thursday and I know that he is in shed right now. Also- talk to your breeder. I'm getting my beardie from Lisa with Beginners Basic and she is great on answering all my questions.

A dragon's color is very linked to his emotional state. A dragon who has been transported in a car or shipped, set up in a new home with new people very rarely shows it's color. Give your new baby time, plenty of food and quiet to settle in to their new home. Once he/she is secure, they'll start showing off their true color!
Keep us updated on how he/she's doing!

How do I get her feeling secure. I am trying to handel her 2 to 3 times a day for about 10-15 min.s each time. She is eatting and has a mirrior by her cage since the breeder said she was in with other dragons before. I do not want to put her with my other female beardie because she should be quartined for awhile, even though they are almost the same size. She bit me today which shows you how wild she is. I ignored the bite and covered her head til she calmed down, than held her and watched TV for about 10 min.s After that she was returned to her enclousure.

If she is one of Mike's babies you need to give her time. The 6 I got from him did not color up til they were one year old. Many of the babies they produced were late bloomers too.

Got her from Aaron in Las Vegas, I am trying to handel her more to get her calmed down She is pretty wild. She bit me today. I ignored it though, and got her to sit still as I stroked her lightly. Her stillness is not like my other Beardies though she is not looking around? I think she is still in a panic from being shipped and not handeled enough by different people when she was younger. Or maybe it is just her nature.

Agreed, some of the color morphs take a while to "come in". I have sold some dragons in the past that looked almost normal and sold at a normal price and then 6 months later someone sent me pictures and I just about fainted at the sight of a beautiful screamer orange dragon LOL

Give her some time
