Good Trade????

lucy Feb 17, 2004 11:19 PM

I own a 1.1 cb adult breeding pair of hypo 100% het for bloodred corns. The female corn is probably gravid. Someone wants to trade me a 1.2 cbb fully adult trio of normal balls for my corns. The male ball is 3ft and the 2 female are around 4.5 and have good girth (they didn't know the weights but they look nice and fat in the pics) One female has an old scar that runs down the length of her back, most likely from a heat related burn but she was like that when the people got her. All three are healthy and feeding great and one female may be gravid. Do you think this is a good trade? I'm not really into balls so I don't know a lot about their pricing, ect. Anyway thanks!

If you are going to keep them to breed then it's just a matter of which animals you would rather work with.

I can't imagine the normal male would be worth much but hopefully you can provide/find a nice home for him.

Big breedable adult normal female balls have become quite valuable in the last few years due in large part to all the co-dominant and dominant morph males out there.

I don't know what the corns are worth. However, if you want to sell the two females (should probably have gender double checked by an expert) they are probably worth at least a couple hundred now (would have been much more if they hadn’t already been with the normal male this year). If you keep them in their own cages (away from the male) until next summer, get fecal exams and any needed treatments done, and get good weight on them they might be worth $500 or more together. If either does lay eggs try to get pictures to document them as proven breeders as that will also add to their value considerably, but weight is also very important so feed well. I'm thinking that summer would be the best time to sell them so as to give a purchaser time to quarantine before breeding season but then I've seen some pretty desperate pleas for breeders in the late fall also.

If you're not really into balls then I would say don't trade. Personally I like both corns and balls, It seems like a good even trade though I would probably keep the corns if it were me.
