Is there a way to sex my 3-year old Rhino visually? There is a slight bulge at the base of the tail and I do see femoral pores, but I have no basis for comparison to make a determination. Anyone have pics I can look at? TIA.

You will see a slight bulging of the jaw muscles and a raised bulge towards the back of the head. Otherwise, you would need to probe or go with DNA testing. There is an adult female pic to view and many males If you go to one of the search engines and type Cyclura cornatu.

Thanks, Brian. I was about to give up on this question! I'll have to check out more headshots - you are the second person to tell me that they can be sexed just by looking at the head, but I guess I just haven't seen enough to compare.

Hi,
It's never an exact science even by people doing it for years.
I probe when possible for a backup. It's like using the C/A Biometric Ratio with Corucia. I tend to use a backup (But not probing) to be sure.
By the way, In case you didn't catch my post on the skink Forum, Thank you SO much for your hard work on presenting Phoboscincus on the forum. Did you get to read the translation?
Sincerely,
Brian

Brian,
Yes, I read the translation and thank you for sharing. What struck me as fascinating was the description of it's large curved teeth and speculation that birds might be included in it's diet! Awesome! Also, good comment on Cresteds and how far they've come, I forgot about their transformation. Hard to believe they were once thought extinct and now I see them selling for as low as $30!

Hey Doug,
If you have access to the Feb o4 issue of Reptiles Magazine-p. 72 has a picture of an adult pair of Cyclura. It is not a snap but differnces can be seen. This is a good picture in that that smaller size and shape of the female's head is showcased.
On the Phoboscincus French/English translation: Your most welcome. It wouldn't have been possible if you hadn't taken the time and trouble to post the site in the first place.
Sincerely,
Brian
