ATB having a horrible shep any sugestions

psychoninja Feb 18, 2004 01:26 AM

ok my male if having an absolute horrible shed and i dont knwo what else to do, i have soaked him for hours the humidity never drops below 50 but usually stays around 70. His temps were a tad to low for a while due to me being misinformed but i have since corrected it. Are there any other ways to aid in shedding besides jsut soaking him? oh and he is around 4 feet and not a happy camper most of the time so picking the shed off by hand would bring me great pain.

In very bad situations I've always found that putting the snake in a relatively close-fitting plastic container (a rubbermaid or delicup with airholes, depending on size) with a wet heavy paper or cloth towel for not less than 2 hours does wonders. The snakes just seem to take up more moisture than they do when sitting in water, and they don't mind it so much. Then you can use the towel to rub the remaining shed off without getting bitten up. A permanent moist hide in the tank might be a good idea if the snake will use it- I don't keep this species yet.

"The serpent crams itself with animal life that is often warm and vibrant, to prolong an existence in which we detect no joy and no emotion. It reveals the depth to which evolution can sink when it takes the downward path and strips animals to the irreducible minimum able to perpetuate a predatory life in its naked horror."
