well i would highly suggest getting the corn snake manual, its a wondrful book with just about everything you need to know about corns in it.

as for size they get no bigger than 5-6 feet from what iv heard (please correct me if im wrong)

Normally they arnt fussy eaters but like all reptiles some can be.

Most dont object to being handeled but its kinda hard to tell it they like it ot not.

If you keep there cage clean they they shouldnt smell.

if i missed something i9m sure someone will correct me.

hope this helps and post more questions if you got any

- they are usually anywhere from 3-6 feet

- id say if its a baby use a 10 gal but you will have to get something bigger as it grows so i would just buy the 20 gal long tank to void the idea of having to get it later and spending money on 2 cages....unless of course you want more snakes then youll have an extra tank.

- mine loves to be handled she comes to the top of the cage when i open it and goes right to my hand.

- In general NO they are not fussy eaters...id say 1 out of 5 people have trouble once or twice with the snake not eating during the course of its life. usually if they stop eating something is wrong. examples: tank temp and stress.

- as long as you keep the tank clean no they do not smell

P.S. you can get alot of information from this forum just scroll through and read some of the posts.

They may go off feed during breeding season, males in particular. Females will also stop feeding if they are gravid and the eggs are due to be laid.

I've personally never had a snake totally go off feed, but last spring I was feeding 2 hoppers per meal to my one male and he decided that he only wanted 1 food item less frequently than I would normally feed him.

Also, if you do end up getting more than 1 snake, make sure you keep them in separate cages. They can be cannibalistic and may also breed too young if they are a pair. There are also other problems that can arise if kept in the same tank.

absolutly get 'the cornsnake manual' by Bill and Kathy Love. Read up on snakes as much as you can. Corns are sometimes refered to as 'rat snakes' or 'red rat snakes,' you can look them up that way as well. Searching under their scientific name (Elaphe guttata guttata) will provide more in-depth detail.

Also, use this site as much as you can. Don't believe everything you hear about caring for reptiles unless you can find two or three sources to back it up, or it comes from one highly reliable source (this is an old rule of journalism). There is a lot of bad information floating around out there, and most of it can be blamed on pet stores.
