HELP! Breeding/Food question

Hey friends,

we had exceptionally bad luck last year with breeding (low hatching rate), although everything seemed to be as usual (temp, humidity etc.). We are feeding exclusively dead (frozen and thawed)food. Anyone out there with experience with the effects of food (or other factors) on hatching rate?? Any ideas??

Ok first of all, What are you breeding?????? There could be lots of reasons for low numbers of eggs hatching.....Give some mor info on the species, food being offered, is it supplimented???? What are the humidity levels and temps you are incubating at????? What type of incubator are you using????? Stuff like that.......

We were breeding Dendroaspis viridis and Cerastes cerastes last year. The egg hatching rates were around 10 % only. Temp in the incubator was not too high - approx. 27 °C; humidity was of course high. There was no mold or other visible problems with the eggs compared to the prior years. Also, all eggs that failed to produce live young had fully developed snakes in them; they had apparently died just shortly before hatching.

My guess is something went wrong during incubation...... To loose that many snakes is odd....... I will say that your temps or humidity was not right for a period of time...... I cant see this being linked to food or anything outside of improper incubation...... Sorry I cant be of help to you..... Good luck next time.......

I agree. Has to be something gone wrong in the latter stages of incubation period. Dietary problems seem highly unlikely to have caused that problem.
