all the controversy

I just dont understand why people want to go out of thier way to try to sell thier snakes, which are beautiful being just as they are, but have to attach some fancy name to it in the hopes that someone that doesnt know what they are looking at will hop on it thinking its a great deal... like i stated in a previous post, thats why i am here now, trying to learn as much as I can so i dont get scammed into paying 5-600 for somehting i can get at a show for about 75-100. Would love someone to explain that to me... i mean, is it s get rich quick scheme or an overwhelming need to have thier name attached to a certain kind of snake?

It is all about money for them. It is an unfortunate reality, but I must say that I believe that these unscrupulous individuals are normally weeded out soon after they start. Those who have a genuine love and appreciation for this hobby tend to stick around. If you are new to the scene dont let these individuals discourage you.

And about selling! Yes it is important to me to be able to sell some of my animals (acurately represented)and not for huge profit either, but just as a means to finance this very expensive hobby that I fell in love with. So in some wierd way money is involved, some just have a very skewed way to look at it. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT A GET RICH QUICK SCHEME, IT IS MORE LIKE A GET POOR QUICK PROGRAM!!!!!!!!

i agree that there's alot of shady stuff going on with the snake market. Me personally I had ball pythons growing up & a bunch of other reptiles. I find them so fascinating.I have decided to get into breeding with the hope that I can establish something nice & do what I love for a living. So far I'm down 5 to 6 grand. But the thing is I'm happy. This will be my first year at it & even if I don't see eggs that will not discourage me. Even if I don't make any money at all I will have amazing animals. I noticed alot of people come into this with a get rich quick thought , but like with anything it takes work & dedication. So if all you care about is making money fast, sell cars. I know that no matter the outcome I will be happy. Of course I want to make some money but the snakes themselves will be enough for me if things don't work out. the thing that really gets me is that I'm not even a super all knowing experienced herper but you can still smell the b.s. from a mile away..lol I hate seeing an add that is in no way anything but normal & this person sits there & prays for an inexperienced herper to come along & cheat them. I think it's a sad that people like that tarnish the good side of this industry. But I agree with the other post. it seems like they destroy themselves after awhile. So best of luck to you & other people who have passion for what you do, & the rest will eventually fall.
good luck!

RICH, SELL CARS, HOUSES, BOATS, OR MAYBE EVEN INSURANCE OR ANY OTHER NON-TANGIBLE ITEM. YOU WILL HAVE A HARD TIME SELLING SNAKES OF ANYKIND TO GET RICH. I HAVE SOLD ALL OF THE ABOVE AND AM ONCE AGAIN SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE, UNLIKE SOME OF THE NEW GUYS HERE ON THE BOA FORUM.

Brian Oakley Feb 18, 2004 12:18 PM

who are some of the new guys?

From the email I received today, it has only been 5 years since you received your first True Red Tail. Does that make you experienced?

Bill,
A few things you are missing here. I have nothing against you (I have said that already), your 'american jungle' is a nice looking animal (I have said that already), you have great looking snakes (I have said that already), I am not knocking the work you put into snakes (I have said that already). All I am asking, and you have YET to answer it is can we see pics of the adults? If I were (or anyone for that matter) were to inquire about buying some of your snakes, would you not be able to provide pics of the parents? I think that is a BIG question that people would ask if buying a new 'morph'.
All I have asked is if these have been bred into anyting other than the original parents. Have seen an answer to that either. If they have NOT been breed into a normal, it is (AT THIS TIME) nowhere near a new morph or 'jungle'.
If all else fails, answer this ONE question.....the question is,
WHY ARE YOU SHYING AWAY FROM THE LEGITIMATE QUESTIONS I HAVE ASKED BELOW???

It makes it look 'odd' to say the least.

I couldn't have said it better. Thank you for addressing this issue. THIS IS NOT A GET RICH QUICK game. It NEVER will be!!!! IT takes years of work and dedication. Yes, many have proven that you can make a good living out of it, but it took years of hard work, frustration, luck, and the right combinations of animals and investments to make it work. I think all too often people some Breeders sell these as HUGE MONEY MAKERS. I have been guilty of this in the past. I realize that is not the way it is unless you put in the Work, and BELIEVE ME, IT IS NOT EASY!!!!!!!!!!

Now, onto the other issue. This isn't a new issue. It has been going on for YEARS. If you follow the Ball market, you see it done EVERY DAY. People attaching a name to an animal to make more money. I see it this way. I'm not trying to accuse anyone in anyway. IF YOU NAME A MUTATION, You should be able to explain exactly how the gene works. If NOT, call it what it is. A LOOK ALIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!! There are certain names already attached to mutations. The Jungle for example is a PROVEN dominant genetic mutation. There is a COMPLETE DOMINANT Form of the Animal in the Super Jungles, and the Normal jungles pass of the trait in a Dominant Way. I don't mind people attaching names to bloodlines either as long as they are TOTALLY straight about how the bloodline works. I would also not put the same name on a snake becuase it looks similar to another PROVEN gene with a current name either. To me, that looks like they are just trying to profit off of misleading people. EVEN if that is not their intentions, it comes accross as such. As far as Bill is concerned, I don't believe he is intentionally doing this, but I don't think it is in his best interest to be doing this. That is STRICTLY MY OPINION!!!!! For all those Potential Buyers out there. PLEASE BE SMART!!!! WEATHER IT BE CARS OR SNAKES!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeremy Stone

Pictured below is a TRUE Jungle that almost looks like a SUPER or DOMINANT jungle. This was just from a NORMAL jungle to a Hypo. This Jungle did not get the hypo gene. This GENE IS A PROVEN GENE and works EXACTLY the same way as the ones Linda posted Below. By the way Linda. GREAT POSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
