Question about Wattage Use

PythonChick Feb 18, 2004 09:56 AM

Does anyone have any idea of which is more cost effective? Is using a heat bulb cheaper to use than a heat mat? I've been using both, and I prefer to use the bulb (more natural I suppose), but I was just looking at my electric bill and trying to figure out which was driving it up more. :-0

Ya gotta love living on Long Island!

Any Ideas?????

Very vague question with the info provided.

If the heat mat or bulb is on full (i.e. no dimmer or thermostat), then the heater with the higher wattage will cost more. How much wattage is the bulb? How much wattage is the heat mat? Usually, heat mats are less wattage than a bulb.

What if you use a 50 Watt bulb but on a dimmer? Well, now the average power usage is less than 50 Watts per hour. See? Depends on the setup.
