Won't Eat His Greens Anymore.

Dedalus Feb 18, 2004 11:50 AM

Year old male hydrated, not impacted, eats mealies crix wax and supers. He was eating his greens last week but now he won't touch them. Salad mix today was collard, grated carrots, and a few red grapes. Last the 2 or 3 days before that it was collard or romaine and some parsley 2 days ago. I've dropped mealies in the dish and he just eats around the veggies. Any ideas?

If you had a choice to eat ice cream, cinnamon rolls or spinach which would you eat?

From what I understand superworms and waxworms(especially waxworms) are like candy to a beardie and should only be given occasionally as treats. I can tell you when I made the mistake of giving my beardie supers for a few days in a row it wasn't easy to get him to eating other foods again!!

As long as he's healthy you may have to just lay off offering anything but salad for a few days. That's what I had to do.

Good luck!!

Hes eaten 2 wax worms since Ive had him and 2 supers I don't think hes addicted or anything :P. He's just fussy, I have been feeding only greens for the last 2 days I just don't want him to get unhealthy because he won't eat his salad. But thanks again, I'll keep with only greens for the next 2 days before I give him some more crix and worms.

Yup I agree with Rob it might be the worms... I've noticed when I feed my dragons more worms then the occasional treat they will not touch the salads at all. Maybe it's the worms outer shells being a little harder to digest or maybe just them holding out for more worms not sure, but had the same problems on a few occasions. They also will not eat crickets with the same gusto after being fed worms as an extended part of their diet. If he is healthy and a nice weight lay off the worms for a while and get him back on track with his greens and crickets.

Will do, I wasn't heavily feeding any supers or wax worms, just some mealies so i'll leave them out for a week or so and just feed a few crix to stimulate his appetite.
