Well Mike,
Where are you staying in L.A. and how far do you want to travel?
San Bernadino Mtns. shouln't be far.You can go up to the Lake Arrowhead andor Big Bear area's. Find a secluded road and take a hike looking for suitible habitat for herps... Creeks,Rocks fallen logs ect. The San Gabriel Mts. or the upper and lower desert areas are nice locations.
The Joshua Tree area is full of herps and beautiful that time of year also. You can travel down to the Palm Springs area,Whitewater ect.

You can look up these areas on a map and see what area would be in your means and post this again.
It is pouring out now and cold but it was in the 70's in San Diego and parts of Orange County yesterday.
Check the weather online weatherunderground.com is a good site wich updates every 15 minutes. It should warm up some in a couple of weeks for you.

What does it mean to have 0.0.1 Fox snakes or 0.1 Three-toed Box turtle?

USNHM242 Feb 18, 2004 09:23 PM

0.0.1 means that he has a snake that he is unsure of its sex. Usually the way these things are stated the first digit refers to number males, the second digit refers to number of females, and the third digit refers to number of unknown sex.

Thanks for clearing that up. I probably wont be using that system, but its nice to understand what the hell it means. I was thinking 1.1, the observer encountered one snake and a fraction of another snake, perhaps have of the body was eaten.

Whitewater shouldn't be half bad in march. Also in the coast in the san diego area reptiles have slowly started emerging these last few weeks. Its all temp related right now. If you can go south to Anza Borego desert and check out the roads. Regardless bro, best of luck to you.
