` Before you get to disinfecting, find out it the tree is toxic to herps. Many are. Some are slow acting, some fast.
` Check out this toxic vegetation list from Cal Zoo. If I can't find a reference listing it as safe, I consider it toxic. I know of some toxic plants that aren't on this list so, you can't fully trust it to list all that are toxic.

Hey nevin – explain to your mom how nice that woody, outdoorsy smell will be in the middle of winter coming from the kitchen. And that, anyway, the smell of baked wood will dissipate a lot faster than the smell of, say, roast chicken which permeates the house for days afterwards. Consider what sort of insect life may be overwintering in the wood, just waiting for Spring (or your nice warm house) to kick start it back to life. Baking really is the best way to deal with that bark.

i kno the plant is nontoxic. i asked my mom if she mined if i baked the bark, and she said "sure, u mentioned to me b4, and all i could picture was you shoving an entire tree in the oven". so i baked the bark 2day, it didnt smell that bad accually. but thanx for the advise
