Rain Chamber - Need instructions on building one, low cost

cm250c Feb 18, 2004 06:07 PM

We have a pair of red-eyed tree frogs that have been in amplexus for several days, and the male shows no interest in feeding or hydrating himself in the water pool. He basically shows no interest in anything but her. We have been misting their tank twice a day, but would really like to get a rain chamber set up. Does anyone have some step-by-step instructions (or just really detailed instructions) on setting up rain chambers, preferably at a low cost? There is another male in the tank with them right now, but he doesn't do much other than sleep. The tank they are in now is 14"wx14"lx24"h, but it has a side screen in addition to the top screen, a little more than halfway up the side so I'm assuming it would not work for a rain chamber.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's a couple ways to create a rain chamber for a relatively low cost. A submersible pump, hose, and tupperware bin is all that is needed. Place the pump under water and run the hose into the tupperware bin. Drill several holes in the bottom of the tupperware so the water flows out and goes back into the water basin with the pump and recirculates. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.
