Crazy iguana problem pt. 2

girlzilla Feb 07, 2003 11:47 AM

Hi again, everybody...

Bud's basking spot is in his enclosure, with a big 48" UVA/B light (5%), and a spot and CHE. That's the funny thing, Flavia, it has been very cloudy and cold all week, so I would understand if it was sunny that he would want to escape outside. (We had a big snowstorm yesterday, too!) Bud has been very calm since coming home from the vet, he even lets me put Neosporin on his claws.

I'm wondering how to make a hip leash, and if anyone has used bitter apple... plus, how long does (male) iguana mating season last? It's his first, but it's lasted SO long. I don't know, I'm just worried.

Hey Girlzilla,
My ig has also just damaged her pretty toes trying to get out... I don't think they 'know' it's colder outside than inside. They just see the sun and want to bask under that instead of the funny looking glowing tube where you wnat them to go... Especially in my case.. it goes from 50*F days right to 85*F days and back again.. So she'll get to go and spend the day outside one day and then not a day for a week or two. It upsets her. Thankfull her new cage will be done -fingers crossed- next week- thanx again for the plans Wendy!! So then she'll have more room to climb around and hopefully that'll keep her occupied.
Spike screwed up just one toe... got a nasty cut. She is actually letting me treat it too : 0
Her 'time of the year' usually lasts a few monthes...
Maybe get him something to keep him busy... an unspillable fishtank with some fishies for him to watch?? I don't know. All I can say is good luck, hope the toes heel fast!

Hip leashes are inexpensive and very easy to make and preferable to the neck leashes from the pet shops. Just go to a fabric store and get a barrel clasp. It is a little plastic cylinder about 1 inch long. it has a hole through the middle of it and whe you push on the ends of the cylinder the hole opens. Take a length of soft cord, make a loop in one end of it and pull it thru the hole. tie a knot in the short end and pull the long end to adjust the size of the loop. It goes around the body just in front of the rear legs.

That's all? And they can't get out of it? Thank you, Merlin!

Bud is doing better, I haven't noticed any crazy behavior and the nails are growing back in. He's even eating better now. Resting up for the next attack, I suppose.
