Strange behavior, mouth opening... Can anyone explain?

SuperGeckoberry Feb 18, 2004 07:40 PM

Hi,

From time to time my leo comes out of her hide and opens/closes her mouth a series of 5-10 times. Then she shakes her head for a split second. After this, she is fine, and goes back into her hide. When she does this strange behavior, nothing comes out of her mouth, so I don't think she is vomiting.

She has been eating and pooping normally and has recently had a fecal done which came back negative. Can anyone explain or have similar experiences?

1. Mouth problems are signs of MBD sometimes, is sure getting proper calcium?

2. It may be a respitory infection (although I don't know if they can get them)

3. How hot is it? Reptiles gape when too hot sometime.

4. Maybe your leo is just weird

This seems quite unusual so be sure to check the first three points of the first post (enough calcium, heat temps, etc.), but it could be # 4. My male leo is a freakin' goof. He yawns every so often when he comes out of his humid hide, makes barking noises around feeding time, digs in anything he can tear up (including his paper towels - which is funny to watch when he hits the plastic bottom of the sterilite and wonders why he cannot dig anymore), and eats his vitamins like a maniac. His color is beautiful, and is in perfect health. So, long story short, check the important things out, but don't worry if it is just wierd.
