I do not normally write to any of these forums but feel compelled to do so on this occassion. What happened was that i was looking for a care sheet on leopard geckos to print out for a friend/customer. I thought this would be the easiest thing to do considering there must be hundreds of care sheets on the internet. It would save me time, right? The first one I opened said that leopard geckos must have a uvb light and calcium supplement or they would get MBD and die. I for sure didn't want this care sheet because we know this to be not true. The second care sheet recommended pine bedding. WOW. Lets just say I wrote my own care sheet for my friend. I also felt compelled to write the owners of the first care sheet. Perhaps I should have minded my own business because this is the response I got.

Thank you for your comments. You can care for reptiles any way that you
like. We don't care either way. Thanks

I think perhaps they have just come up with a new slogan for their company. "We don't care either way". (as long as we get the extra $50 for the UVB light). Perhaps they would care if enough people gave them an email or stopped doing business with them because they have a bad attitude. My letter to them was short, sweet and to the point but obviously was a waste of my time.

The reptile business is a sad place indeed...

Pet stores lie with no repercussions...

They don't care about them, only about sales, regardless of what the signs in the store say, there are exceptions

I contacted a rescue, and they use sand for reptiles because paper towels are boring, A RESCUE

The fact that pet stores sell obviously defective products and inadequet reptile food is bad as well

the sand debate is a big one... i know several large breeders and keepers who keep their adult geckos in washed play sand with absolutely no ill effects and did this for years.. i would not sugest hatchlings or geckos under 20 grmams on it but for adults it is an acceptable substrate now while i do think washed play sand is acceptable i think all those cali sand substrate are trash. just because a rescue uses sand doesnt mean they are bad... using sand is not bad but know how to use it responsibly is the key.

almost anyone knows cedar will kill reptiles from absorbtion from the skin,I don't understand how any store will hire complete idiots just to sell product or a animal.

Petco and Petsmart are known for this time and time again saying whatever will sound good just to move the animals and the supplys.
