i need to disinfect wood for my cage, how can this be done?

i peeled some bark off of a dead tree, enough to cover the back of my cage (8'x3'). there pretty big peaces. if i bake them will it stink up my house? or is there an easyer way to do it?

You can bake wood branches at 200-250 degrees for an hour or so to kill any bugs and it shouldn't smell up the house. I've never baked bark, so you would need to watch over it to be sure there were no problems but it shouldn't be any more flammable than the wood itself. Also, be sure to set the oven racks low enough that the wood doesn't touch the heating elements or the odor will be the least of your problems. I also typically like to soak any natural pieces of cage furniture in a mild bleach solution for a few hours and then let them dry out (or rebake to dry them). Hope this helps.
