What king of dog food could i use to feed my rats. I heard there are some dog foods that have red dye in it and will kill your reptiles.

If the dog food looks RED straight out of the bag, then it's got dye and is bad for your reptiles. If it looks BROWN or TAN it doesn't have dyes and therefore that is not an issue. I buy "Grrreat Adult Dog Food" from Petsmart, no dyes, the mice and rats love it. I've tried many other dog foods but they all seem to either be hated by my mice, or if the mice like them, they urinate more, drink more, and eat more. Never found a better dog food for my mice/rats/gerbils.

I use Wal-Mart Brand Ol' Roy dog food. Bite and Bones, it has 21% proteine.
Cheap dog food is better for rats because they have a veggie/meat diet. And cheap dog food are considered fillers. Where they are mostly grain, but have meat products and by products in them.
And of course you should always supplement their diet with fresh veggies atleast once every 1-2 wks. carrots, apples, brocoli,cauliflower, pears, avacado (messy!) and can eat baby food as well. Dry cereals like cherios are good for them to. Nothing that is sugary. get the "Good for you" kind of cereal.
Mice are grain eaters. They don't do well on dog food because they don't eat meat normally.
