03 Male IJCP pic in sunlight

JDouglas Feb 18, 2004 10:11 PM

This is my little 03 male that was produced by Yasser. Hey Yasser could you post a couple pics of his parents? Thanks...

Also my female IJCP has not laid yet and it has been 21 days since her prelay shed. Any day now I should find some eggs!

This is the mother of your male and the sister of one of the females that is gravid for us this year. This pic is from back in Nov '03 but it is the most current I have got of her.
She is one of my favorite IJs we have and she now approaching about 5.5 feet.
You're gonna have to wait for pics of the father as I am waiting for his next shed to get some updated pics of him.

We are still waiting for our first clutch of the year from one of our IJs. Ours has gone 22 days so far since her prelay shed. She is laying in some really painful looking positions!
Lemme know when you get eggs!

She is a great looking IJCP and throws some killer babies. I can see why she is one of your favorites!
Yes please post a pic of dad after he sheds. Did he sire any clutches this year?

Day 22 and no eggs...

His name is Felt.
He was not bred this year at all because we wanted to try to get offspring from another male, namely Herman and the Poster Child. He is a WC animal that we raised from hatchling size.
He is a real tank at only four feet or so. He is extremely muscular and thick for only being maintenance fed.
He was our first Irian Jaya and I am kinda attached to him so I don't think he'll be going anywhere anytime soon.
Forgive me for the yucky pic...I was cleaning his cage and I just snapped this pic while he was in a holding cage.
I will get a better set of pics of him in the near future.

Do they keep that nice orange throughout adulthood? I am becoming an IJ fan slowly but surely.

Just like Jungles IJ color improves with age. The orange is more vibrant in adults, so the younger they are and the better their color means they'll pretty stunning as adults.

...Not all IJs are created equal and many do not develop the orange colors with age. Some get uglier and uglier actually. They can be very dull brown and black animals with lots of sooty smudging through their pattern. The situation with IJs is much like that of Jungles. There are ugly jungles and there are selectively bred lines that can produce spectacular jungles. Some are $70, some are $250. Same boat with IJs.
In the coming years, there will be more and more good lines of IJs reproducing and I believe the beauty of them will rival that of The Jungle Carpet for sure. And I will certainly be making my contribution to help!

Thanks Darci and Yasser. I may just have to get some someday. My friend Benson got some recently from you Yasser, so I can see them grow up and see their adult coloration. How do they differ from jungles?

Justin,
Jungles are more drab in their first year of life. They are born grey and black where IJs are born with a terracotta orange color with brown or straw colored markings.
I personally love IJs because throughout their lives, they look good to me. But I am EXCEEDINGLY biased.
IJs will also typically stay smaller than Jungles with a majority of adult being 4.5-6 feet. Also, a 5 foot IJ is more stocky in build than a 5 foot Jungle but that is primarily due to the fact that jungles are usually still growing at that size where an IJ is considered a mature adult.
Kepp an eye on Benson's trio....there's a couple of those that may grow up to be real beauties.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

It seems like most of the IJs I have seen so far look like ugly jungle carpets, but yours and some others that have been recently posted are really nice looking. Are the nice orange ones pretty hard to come by? Also, are offspring from the orange ones generally nice as the parents or will you get some ugly ones as well?
