Need some tips...

Lucien Feb 18, 2004 11:45 PM

The Local Agway here sells Galvanized Stock tanks in varying sizes.. the 8 ft long one is about $175 and is about 4 ft deep/wide.. give or take.... The 6ft is about the same measurements only shorter... My Bosc is about a year old now.. and I'm looking into the Stock tank deal for her.. What I want to know is would the 6 ft work well enough or do I need to go for the 8 ft? I'm working with a limited amount of space.. barely enough room for the 8 ft... which is why I was wondering if the 6ft would be fine. The other question I have is regarding a top.. and how to build a secure one to go ontop of the Stock tank.. how to secure it to the steel... etc.. Any tips would come in very handy...

I think a 6ft trough for a sav should be plenty. On my troughs I keep it pretty simple.
I use 2x2s and hardware cloth for the top. Of course depending where you are located you might want to opt for a more sealed environment ie plexi, wood, etc. To attach the hardware cloth to the top lip of the trough I use self drilling or self threading(not sure what its called) screws with washers. I then use a hinged door in the center laid on top of two 2x2s running the width of the trough and drill the hinges directly onto the lip. I also throw a couple of furniture dollies in the bottom for easier moving.

Thanks.. thats exactly what I was looking for. I think I may opt for a plexi top.... I live in the North Eastern US... and it gets pretty cold and dry here in the winter... I was hoping the 6ft would work.. so I have some room to play around with for some other stuff.... *L* Thanks again.
