REGURGITATION PART 4>>>>>>>>>>>>

cv768 Feb 19, 2004 07:22 AM

Our little corn regurgitated on the 7th....

Since then we've been attempting to offer pinkie head every 3 days since the 12th. Another was offered last night and refused.

I think we are going to try to wait another week before we try to feed her again.

Any creative suggestions???

Last resort for me would be a live beheaded pinkie. Gruesome but worked for me when all else was refused.
I tend to think that something else is going on with your snake though. Has it been vet treated? (I haven't closely followed your thread) What started the regurges?

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with the software.

I think it is mostly my fault...I tried to step him up to fuzzies too soon and he ate the fuzzie and back up it came...and he hasn't eaten since....though I suppose it's only been 12 days...and he did poo about a week ago so I'm not too worried...yet.

I'm just keeping you geys posted and always looking for new suggestions.

im really not sure if anyone has suggested this at all but by an anole and put it in a small box with a pinky. aka scenting. not sure if this works for corns but it works miracles for kings and milks.

Just my opinion BUT I would NOT try an anole or any other type of lizard. I would only do that if it wasn't eating at all, BUT since its eating and regurging, I would tend to think it could be a health issue. Like Sonya, I am not too familiar with your thread. Is PART 4 referring to the 4th time its regurged? AND if it regurged on the 7th, did I read correctly when you stated that you have been attempting to feed him every 3 days since? I would think that this is extremely stressful for the snake. I would wait 10 days at least before any more feeding attempts. What were your feeding schedules? Corns can only digest so much before they have to cough something up. If you did jump the gun and try prey too big, that could be the case, BUT if so, I would simply wait and leave the snake alone for a week at least. Correct me or add more detail if I misunderstood you..

Oh no, it hasn't regurged 4 times...just once...and hasn't eaten since.

Although it's only been 12 days since he regurged so like you said, we'll be leaving him alone for a week or so now before we try to feed him again...I've never had a snake regurge out of all the years we've bred and kept snakes...I'll let everyone know if anything happens new...or if he ever eats again....I'm thinking he will...he just needs some time to relax.

I had an regurge incident when I moved my herps from one room to another inside my home. Well, the temperature difference between the two rooms was slight, I didn't think it could make a difference. Unfortunately it did. Of course I found out the hard way AFTER some of my snakes regurged their first meals in the new room. I moved them back to their original room and everything was fine after that. It was only a difference in a few degrees but it was a big difference for them.

I believe there is an internal mechanism within corns that signals them to spit up food that they know would otherwise rot inside of them due to lack of digestion. That was really the only time I ever had a problem with regurge (b/c of slightly lower temps). I imagine the reverse could also be a problem. Many people use inaccurate methods of checking temps and probably run temps higher then corns may experience in the wild. In a cage or tank, there is only so much room to thermoregulate. I was using various thermometers, etc etc and no two would read the same temps. I usually go with an approximation of averages of the 3 daily temp readings I get.
