when feeding your leo pinkies.............

domina Feb 19, 2004 09:07 AM

How big should your leo be before you start feeding it pinkies?

I would say around 25 grams would be a good weight to introduce them to pinkies. In my experience I have seen leopards that were never introduced to pinkies refuse to take them. So its a good idea to try and start them fairly young. This is not always the case but I have noticed this to be a trend with leos. Hope this helps.

I will wait until they are adults, and I would only give them one onnnnnce in a while.

Shes a FAT gecko and she lays eggs like theres no tommorow. It's probobly one of the most healthy leos I've ever seen. The only reason he does it is because hes the reptile manager at a pet store and gets pinkys for a few cents each.

Ha, i wish i had a girl who spat out eggs. Do you think it would be cheap and easy to breed mice and make my own pinkies? I don't think my mom will go for it, but would it be easier?

Dedalus Feb 19, 2004 06:00 PM

First off mice STINK and I mean STINK it's worse than cricket smell. They do breed alot, the only problem would be that after 3 days there no longer pinkies there hoppers who have a more solid bone structure. So unless your going to be able to get rid of 8 or 10 pinkies in 3 days you'll have to deal with more mice. But you could always try

Fat does not always mean healthy. Compare that to a 400 pound person to a 150 pound person who eats well and works out regularly.

My 2 cents.

I agree but it isn't over weight it's just HUGE. I'm not saying that anyone should follow him by example, I was just pointing out that his pinky fed leo is massive.

not to argue...but pinkies mostly supply purely fat. On the other hand, mealworms and crickets provide the geckos with a much better nutrional content.

Pinkies aren't much fat really. Because they are newly born (I almost said just hatched...haha ) there is little to no fat on their bodies. They're very nutritious, just look at animals that eat strickly mice/rat diets. Snakes, monitor lizards, some geckos? They aren't fat. But I would agree that a strickly pinkie diet wouldn't be the way I would go, but hey if you can get them cheap it's not that bad of an idea.

Once again I'm not saying feed pinky's only. I was just stating that the one gecko ive seen fed pinky's only DWARFS any other crix/worm fed gecko I've ever seen. The thing is just massive.
