Need Help.. Found Milk Snake in Basement....

Laurah Feb 19, 2004 09:13 AM

Hi All,
I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help us! I just found a milk snake in our basement and since it is winter here (snow is still on the ground) I don't know what to do with it! I want to give it a chance for survival and I don't like killing things just for the sake of 'getting rid of it'. I was wondering if any of you would glady take it in or be able to instruct me what to do with it. I CANNOT take care of it.. I have other pets in which the snake might harm if it got out (toads) and I just don't want to take that chance.
Right now I've got the snake in a jar with a few small holes poked in the lid. I put him in the coolest area of the basement with a cloth wrapped around the jar. I live near Carlisle Pennsylvania.. if any of you would like to take in an extra snake and wouldn't mind coming to pick it up, by all means, please get in touch with me asap! I'm going to try a few other possiblities, but if I don't find out what to do within 2 days I'm afraid I'll be forced to set him outside in the cold. I don't know much about snakes. Maybe releasing it would be ok, but like I said, I just want to give it a chance for survival first. Thanks in advance for all your sugestions/help!

Where is Carlisle? I'm about 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh. If you'd be willing to meet us somewhere(halfway between us, even)

all it cut was "i'd be willing to take it in."

Thanks for enquiring, but I let it go today after I found out from a herpatologist it would be ok to do so. The weather warmed up to about 55 degrees F today. Honestly, the snake wasn't looking all that well, something I'd be afraid might infect someone else's snakes if they took it in. Some kind of bumps under the skin. I was able to let it go in a rock pile in the sun and it seemed quite happy while slithering away. So, thanks anyway! I do appreciate the help!

Well done,

I was going to suggest the same thing, but I had to wait for my account to activate. It's nice to see how many friends snakes have.
