I just recieved two new geckos a large male and young adult female I first put the male in his own enclosure and than I put the female in my large cage with my other female. i sat and watched the two females for awile. than the new female walk over to my other female, who is only about 10 grams bigger, my older female than lunged at the new gecko. I immediatly put my old gecko i another cage. My question is how should i go about introducin the three geckos. The way they are now they can see each other through the glass is this a good way of introducing them. How should i do this I have a lage cage and plenty of hides and food.

Thanks

I really don't think the two females would have fought. They were just establishing a pecking order. Try introducing them again and make sure your hides are plenty large enough to accomodate the leopards. One thing to also consider is you may have gotten a hold of a "hot" female. Females that were incubated at the higher end of the temperature range are sometimes HIGH STRUNG. I have noticed that some also have trouble calming down when being held as well. Your two females will establish their own hierarchy and should be fine. Hope this helps.

I have a super female (blackjack) and she was the first leo, I have had her for about 7 years. I added two more females (trinity and matrix)and they were both bullied in the beginning. I have had to take out other leos as I have had trouble with blackjack being far to agressive. I placed a male in with the 3 and she bullied it so bad that it refused to eat and lost almost half of its weight, I was able to take him out and get him back to health so just becareful. I also have a problem with blackjack biting matrix tail off. so far this has happend 4 times in 6 years. The two of them have tiffs and continually fight for supremacy is the only thing I can think of. I always watch when I introduce new leos to the group just to make sure nothing happens.

First thing when getting new geckos is to quarentine them for approx. 3 months to make sure they are not a health risk to your current group. After that what i did was to slowly introduce my females together, letting them see eachother by placing tanks side by side and then having group play sessions. I put them all into a tank togther and watched to see how they would react. I did this a few times, introducing food to see how they did too. All in all there was no fighting and i eventually put them all together in my 40 gal tank. Theres been a few times that they had disagreements (trying to all fit into one hide) but all in all they get along great. I've seen all of them at one time or another curled up together. And when it comes to food each comes to the dish at their own time to eat. At first there was an order but now its not so much that way. Nala my blizzard girl used to be last but now she'll be first and once she's done the others make their way over. Only one eats at a time still though.

IMO if fighting is continuous and/or causes injury then the females should be separated indefinetely.

Thanks, i guess i'm just paranoid about bringing something into my collection that i worry about everyone else as well. Theres these adorable geckos at the local pet store in town. Small, yet adorable! They are on sand with a HEAT ROCK and have dug under it to stay warm. There are crickets as large if not bigger than their heads.......I want sooooooooo bad to get them out of there but i'm scared of what might happen if i do. I don't have a separate room to put them in, at least not right now.

When i move into my own house i swear i'm going to start a leopard gecko rescue.....going to be broke and have a house full of them but LOL, its well worth it i think LOL

That completely slipped my mind. Should be a given when introducing new animals to your collection. I didn't even catch that. Been in a stupor since I bought my new house! GOOD EYE Red and Robin.

By introducing them to each other your completely killing the point of quarantining...Any physical contact, or even doing someting in one tank and then going to another without washing your hands can transmit disease. ...Anyway...after an appropriate quarantine period, be sure to have an entirely cleaned and disinfected tank so no one feels territorial...that should minimize aggressiveness since they will all have to get used to it and no one will be protected something they've designated as thiers.
