Human Heating Pads - Fire? (How to properly use...)

feflicker Feb 19, 2004 11:26 AM

I just got a Vision cage for my Burm...

I have a human heating pad (e.g. Wal-Mart) under the Vision cage. It has a cloth shroud covering it, and is sitting on a towel to stay off of the carpet. The cage is sitting on directly on it, and it is on the floor currently (looking for a table to put the whole thing on, but looks like I might have to build my own)...

Can it/Will it - start a fire? Should the weight of the cage be on the pad?

I have it set to "low" right now just incase... The cage is 83F on the warm side, so it is ok for now... :O)

I don't know the material of those but I use one for plastic cages(sterlite) on medium that have been on for two weeks now and no melting or anything

i've used up to four at a time.(now down to two)they work fine, not terribly adjustable though.i did have to replace the switch mecanism on two of them.1 after 3 months & the other after about five.i replaced them with a regular household dimmer switch & now they work fine.

Well I have been using them on two of my cages for about three months now and I haven't had any problems.

I would also like to know if anyone else has any input though.

Iv'e been using them for a lil over a year now, and no problems, although I'm gonna replace them soon. I keep it on medium and use two of them for my juvenile florida kings
