I noticed Saturday morning that Albert had white crystals around both nostrils. I tried brushing them off, but they were a little "caked" on. I moisten my finger to remove them and the crystals tasted like salt (I forgot and stuck the same finger in my mouth, Yuck). Any ideas what this is or could be?

Also, how do you sex a collard? Is it similar to beardies?

And Albert is nothing but bones, but I have noticed I can't see his tail bones as badly anymore and he eats 4 times a day (6-10 small crickets each feeding). Do you think once his tail fills out it will work it's way up his body filling in as it goes?

Do collardeds poop a lot? I have been keeping track of his "movements" and he goes 3 times a day or more (usually more). Could this be due to the amount of food he is consuming or it normal?

Do they eat greens? I put greens in his cage every morning (along w/my beardies) and I haven't noticed him eat them, but they are almost all gone when I get home.

Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

Carrie

Throught the nostrils, very normal, lasts few days, he will put weight on, if hes eating every single day (make sure he is fed everyday) And they do go alot, I suppose because their metablolism is very fast ! The signature thing is explained in tools and toys uner the posting place, :0) Eve

ha, ha. Ick, I hope you're kidding. Yea..more than likely excess calcium salt being excreted.

Excess salt & calcium. Nothing to worry about. My collared looks like he has a problem with cocaine.

Usually, you can do it by their colours. Thsi should help explain some. http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=8051,8172

You've just got to give it time. & if he was WC, you might want to check for parasites.

They are big poo-ers. Crazy metabolism.

Some will. Some won't. Depends upon your collared.

You're welcome.

I like you guys better than the BD forum (but don't tell, shhhh).

I'm glad the crystal thing is considered normal. Definitely looks like a coke problem...he, he, he. Should I keep dusting his crickets or reduce? I use vitamins, calcium and parazap. I dust one feeding a day, but plan to reduce this next week. I wanted to get them in him (two weeks) since I'm sure that he hasn't had them before.

He went to the vet a week ago and got a clean bill of health. I use the parazap as a preventative measure w/all my reptiles.

I also have one more question...
His tail twitches. Could this be a sign of MBD/calcium deffeciency? If so, will he live w/it? I don't know much about it. I do know that there isn't a cure, or am I wrong?

I'm not sure if he was wild caught or not. He was given to the pet store by someone who just didn't want them anymore. He hissed at me for the first time last night and I thought it was the cutest thing in the world.

Thanks again!

Collareds are kinda like cats. My guys tail twitches when he is about to jump or eat something or do something. So as far as I know this is normal and you shoudn't worry about it.

I guess his problem is not getting it into his nose? LOL
