Maya didn't make it....

veronicag Feb 19, 2004 12:28 PM

Last night was a difficult night for Maya. She had all of this brown thick liquid coming from her mouth and nose. It was so thick she was having a lot of trouble breathing. She finally gave up the struggle around 8:30 last night. We will really miss her... RIP Maya

Houdini is still here and struggling. We now have a nebulizer but don't know what to put in it or how to really use it. Does anyone have any experience with a nebulizer. I was told I could dilute Baytril with saline and run it through the nebulizer. Also, I think just the saline mist from the nebulizer will help him loosen the mucus in his lungs. Doug Dix talked to me for about an hour last night and told me a lot of useful infomation. He said that Houdini most likely won't make it because his condition has progressed too far. His stomach has shut down and isn't processing any of the critical care solution we are feeding him. It comes out in the same for it goes in. His eyes are sunken in and we are giving him saline injections to keep him hydrated. If he makes it it will truly be a miracle at this point.

Thanks for your support everyone. It means a lot.

Oh, Veronica, I'm so sorry you lost her. At least she can rest now. And you know you did absolutely everything you could - well above and beyond what most people manage.

Best of luck with Houdini - he's been a strong one. Maybe your miracle will come through.

I'm so sorry to hear about Maya. I thought she might make it with all the help and care you've been giving her. I wish all reptile owners had as much dedication and love for their pets as you do. Please stay strong. My heart goes out to you and to Houdini.

Maya is breathing easy now, chowing down on a big pile of greens and thinking about the fabulous owner who loved her so much and never gave up! Houdini is in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry, Veronica! I know it's very hard to lose a pet, and one you've worked so hard to help. My thoughts are with you, and I hope Houdini pulls through.
I am so glad you've shared your stuggles with us, and please know that you lead by example with the excellent care you're giving your critters.
Good luck!
Nicki

Sorry to hear.
I can only hope Houdini does not share the same fate.
It is so hard to see them suffer.
So sorry.

i'm sorry fot your loss...it extremely sad, that people who are adicted to animals as much as you are lose their pet!!i know how you feel and i'm preety much sure i would feel the same if that happened to me!
anyway, keep in mind that you've tried everything and it's not your fault!
at least she's not in the pain anymore!
i hope Houdini will make it!!!it would be too much for you to lose 2 animals in a row!!!!
be good and don't lose hope for Houdini!
in the world there should be more people like you!!
