roach colony question?

israel2004 Feb 19, 2004 02:05 PM

Trying to figure out how many orange head roaches to get to start my colony.

I'm going to need to get it, so that i can be feeding off 4 dozen of varies sizes every other night.

I think of getting 100 to start. But i don't want to have to wait forever for it to get to the point of self substaing it self (sp?). So if more is what i need to be at a self substaining level, than more is what i'll get.

It will take them a while to get big size, if you want tons you may want to try lobsters. I would probably start with 1000 or so

I would never get lobsters. They would crawl up the dish and get away before my lizzards could eat them. Theyre fast and climb smooth surfaces.

I raise orange heads and started with 30. It took about 6 months and i have LOTS of babies that are growing fast.

If i had to do it over Id start with 100 or more as much as you can afford.

So a hundred is pretty good number to start with then.
The place I'm going to getting them from 100 is $65 with the shipping. That's really pushing the upper limit of my budget.

The one thing I'll never get is lobsters. Don't want a roach that can climb.

Thanks,
Israel

100 is a good start. You really need to be patient. Even when your hundred reach adult and you start seeing babies, I would pull the first 200-300 babies into a seperate container and raise them up. Then anything after that you can feed off when it gets to the size you want.
