Top 10 Reasons Kings are better than Indigo's

Keith Hillson Feb 19, 2004 02:25 PM

1) Kings adapted to northerly climates while Indigos cant seem to get higher than S. Georgia its too chilly up there brrrrr...

2) You can get a King for under 50 bucks still . You can get an Indigo for under 1000 bucks (but not less than 400 bucks).

3) Kings are nomadic rebels they go wherever they want. Indigos have the same square footage they never leave, seems very militia like.

4) Kings efficiently constrict their food and eat without haste. Indigo's play with and swing their food around and then eat.

5) Kings dont need Federal protection they are a successful species.

6) Kingsnake nickname CHAIN KING, MASTER SNAKE or RATTLESNAKE PILOT. Indigo nickname Blue Gopher (nuff said)

7) Kings come in many patterns and colors . Indigo's come in either Black or Black.

8) Kingsnake wait at least a couple of days before dumping . Indigo's blow the next day with extra foul smell on the side(irritable Bowel Syndrome?)

9) Kingsnakes will give you eggs year after year. Indigo egg production is a bit...erratic lets say.

10) Kings sleep under the stars or bushes...ok maybe some trash piles also. Indigo's sleep in a hole in the ground with Gopher Tortoises (can you say Kato of OJ fame) Hey wasn't Saddam found in a Gopher Tortoise Burrow ?

P.s. This is all for fun please noone take offense. I actually love Dry's just not as much as Kings!

(lol) But I do have to say....Indigo's also come in brown (central American sps). You can still buy the central American forms for under $200.
Add to that...
Kings are much cheaper to feed and house.

That being said....Kings Rule!

Keiths post was excellent, but I think it needed a little SOMETHING..so here it is!! Some brutal truth! Enjoy!!

1)Eastern indigo snakes command a MUCH higher price than kings, primarily because there are fewer of them in collections, fewer in the wild(Read...R*A*R*E*R* ) and are much more diffuclt to get good eggs from------> A challenge. mmmmmm

2)Male indigos cover HUGE areas in search of a mate during breeding time.Aside from that time period, why would they NEED to wander? Wahts the motive here?

3) Eastern indigos slap their food around and play with it, salivating all the while. After all, its not just a meal...its an adventure........

4)I agree the need for Federal permits sucks. period.

5) Go to any reptile show and you will see table after table after table of kingsnake and milksnakes, and MAYBE 3 or 4 Eastern Indigos, if your lucky, and the tables that have the easterns will be full of people gawking at them. Nuff' said!

6)Blue and black are good colors...especially if you are a RAIDER fan

7) Kingsnakes blow their load in their slidebox/cage often as SOON as you clean it. So much for ease of maintenance......lol

8)Indigos will NOT give you eggs year after year. Thats a given in most cases. Again..a challenge. Compare a 1999 Hyundai Excel to a 70's Dodge Charger with a 440 magnum. Tempermental...but worth it. (Ask Vin Diesel!)

9) Kingsnakes can be found under TIN, wood, cardboard, near sheds, under used toilets,SITTING on the middle of the road thermoregulateing at night---->As they WAIT for cars to HIT them. lol Indigos hang with their Tortuga counterparts, they know a good thing when they see it, just let someone else DIG the hole!!! muhahahah

10) Saddams hideway was covered by Wood or cardboard. mmmmm, sounds vaguely like kingsnake habitat!

To o[bleep]er Keiths message, THIS post is TOTALLY in the spirit of good fun. I actually love many kings, especially Eastern chain kings and Outerbanks kingsnakes. But not before drymarchon. Nope

Thanks,

Fred Albury
