skin problem

Another skin problem. I have an okeete corn approximately 8 months old and the other day while handling him, I noticed that several of his scales in the ventral rear portion of his body were slightly discolored. Instead of being orange/red/black they were gray/whitish. I have Kathy Love's Corn Snake manuel and it mentions that blisters/discoloration can occur from too moist an environment and that snakes will shed to heal faster - no cause for concern. However, I live in Chicago and I can tell you right now that the air is not humid - in fact it is severely low in humidity. Does anyone know if low humidity can cause the discoloration as well? He doesn't ever tip his water bowl so that can't be the cause and he did just recently shed. I admitt that I have been lazy in cleaning his cage regularly of late due to a hectic schedule. Could this be some sort of skin infection?
Also, I did note that the scales on the end portion of his body look dried out - even the non-discolored ones. They look sort of like the post right below me from wolfcharmer.

I also replied in the cornsnake forum, I am thinking that these are skin infections. Either way, the website above shows pics and more detailed opinions from others. I believe the person's snake in the above link died.

Well the vet said that the humidity levels were just too low here in Chicago during the winter. Since the humidity levels dropped, I should spray my snake a couple times a week with water. The dryness was the reason for the wrinkled appearance of the scales. The white/grey spots the vet thought to be fungal at first. But, after a skin scraping, he came back and said it was hypomelanism. So - genetic nothing to worry about and just started showing up since he is reaching a year old. Thought I would let everyone know. Wolfcharmer, the humidity could be a factor in your snake's wrinkled appearance too.
