I have a baby female, At what age or size are they able to breed? How many eggs are average? I just want some info so I can decide if she will be a pet only or a pet/breeder.

I have bred alterna at 18 months but have had better results at 2 1/2 (their 3rd season). I go by weight and the overall health of the female, if she is 150 grams (but not fat) I have had good results. I have bred females at 100 grams with mixed results. Mine normaly lay 10-14 eggs and most will double clutch with a smaller 2nd clutch. I have experianced a moderate % of eggs initially scored good then going full term and not hatching. This is common with this species with speculation there is something in their diet we are not suppying them with. I have tried calcium d3, various incubation methods with no noticble difference.
Good luck

Tad
