German Giant Question???

gingersteve Feb 19, 2004 05:48 PM

I did not get the details of the blood lines for my beardie, however now at 8 mths, she is 21" which seems a pretty good size.

My question is, are there any differences other than size that would enable me to determine if she is a German - I seem to remember seeing somewhere that the GG's have a different number of spikes. On reflection I also seem to remember reading that the GG's were the same species, but selectively bred for size and vitality - which would make the above suspect.

Can anyone help??

Thanks,
Steve

with spikes etc.... they are the same species.

Then tend to have wider heads and longer bodied than the regulars, just all over bulkier. Here are a few pictures of German with regulars

The girl is front is a full GG, the next one behind her is 1/2 GG and the one in the back is a regular.

Bottom cage is a full GG male, one up is a regular female and the one up from that is a 6 month old German import(BTW, thats not the Males normal cage, he runs the house, only bask there)

Male full GG

Thanks Cheri, since I only have the one beardie right now, I have no comparison - how big is your gg, snout to tail, snout to vent, and weight.

BTW, nice dragons - and that chap in the bottom cage is a 'monster' - you feeding him miracle gro' or somthin'.

from 550-1028 grams, the regulars are 350-480 grams.

Snot to vent on the boy is 11 inches and vent to tail is 13 for overall of 24, but he has a tail nip so we figure at least 1-2 inches there. The girl in the picture is 600 grams and 21 inches and still growing it seems as she gained another 1/2 inch the past six months. She is not as long bodied as he is being only 9.5 inches snot to vent, but she is very stocky built. BTW, the boy at that weight has almost no fat on him either except the tail area and fat pads on the head, none in his beard, chest or stomach area and is a modest eater.

We have another year old girl that we think will be larger than the girl in that picture, she is 450 grams now and 19 inches. GG tend to bulk up more the second year.
