Patch Nose Snakes

reptoman Feb 19, 2004 11:09 PM

Is there any interest in Patch Nose Snakes out there? I live around the San Antonio Area and already have cuaght numerous patch nose snakes around the hay barn, they seem to be quite common around here? They seem to be mild mannered, when caught they have never tried to bite, obviously they must eat, mice, lizards. They also seem to have color variations some dark and others light with even a pinkish rose color on some? I'm not that familiar with the species since I'm from California and have just moved into the area. Thought I'd see if anyone out there is familiar witht these bueatiful striped snakes.

Do you have any pics to post? I'd be interested in seeing one. I'm from NE, and I don't think we have any of those here.

I have allways felt that Patchnose were badly underrated as a pet. I have kept most (if not all) of the forms and they are easy to maintain. Small specimens like lizards but larger ones will readily take a fuzzy mouse. Important: Keep the food animals SMALL. They do not have the swallowing capacity of a ratsnake or king. Otherwise, care is as for a typical colubrid.

Lucky you! I have never seen one in the wild.

I agree with what you said. They make great pets and eat in captivity as well as adapt quite readily.

I kept a big female, close to or over 36 inches in size. Great snake. At first she would only accept anoles and brown snakes, though after her second feeding she would take live or frozen mice quite readily. She never bit or musked, though she was quite adept at escaping. Just kept her like a corn or a king. Andy
