uncoodinated froglet

leif Feb 20, 2004 08:52 AM

Hi!

Well I'v had my tinc froglets for six days now and they seem to be doing well. Two are nice and chunky while one is slightly thinner. I'v noticed that the thinner one doesn't seem to be able to always catch it's flies as easily as it's siblings. It misses alot. I have seen it get some though. It chases the flies around and activly hunts them down, but more often that not misses it's strike. I don't suppose there are any tricks of the trade out there to insure it's getting enough food. They are in a sparse five gallon tank and can easily find the flies, so that's not the problem. I'v probably just got the new froglet worries

Also. I left a slice of banana on a piece of wood as a place for the FF's to hang out and the PDF's to find them. That banana piece is now a squirming mass of FF larva. Should I just leave it there?

Thanks in advance!

Leif

Hey I saw no one replied. I would separate out the little fella from his bigger siblings. Make sure he is well hydrated!!! Whatever he is dealing with could easily turn worse if he is under greater stress with having to compete for food, or if lack of hydration is causing further uncoordination. Pedialyte diluted with water is good to have on hand in case he gets more dehydrated. Contact Dr. Frye for further assistence. You need the email address?

Thanks for the advice!

You'll be happy to hear (and I'm happy to report) that the little guy is doing fine. He's even got a little gut on him now! I think part of the problem was the dusted fruit flies. All three tincs seem to have trouble with them. When they shoot out their tongues and snag the fly, if it doesn't hit directly inside thier mouths they smack it off with their feet and try again. It doesn't usually happen with the undusted flies though. I don't think they are getting a good grip on the flies with the dust. But I still dust once a day, they do get some. Am I making any sense?

More good news. I just brought home three nice orange leuc froglets. All three gobbled up the first flies I threw in the tank. I love when that happens

Thanks again

Leif

Well, that is very good news. Its never fun to loose any of those precious little guys we love. I'm so glad it was nothing. How old/what size are they? Congrats on your new addition of the leucs too! Mid this year I will have some fine spotted variety. Get a hold of Dr. Fryes email to have in your emergancy numbers/email list for future use. Its good that it was just a false alarm not only because it turned out well, but now you could get prepared ahead of time. Post a picture of your beauties so we can enjoy a sight of your new pets! Who is the breeder, by the way? Regards, Maggie

Thanks for your interest!

The tincs are about 1/2 inch long. I got them from Black Jungle and they were bred there. I got to see the parents. Awesome little frogs.

The luecs are the same size and I got from Regal Reptile but I don't know if they were bred there, I forgot to ask.

They are all eating well and I hope that continues. I tried taking pictures but I have a cheap digital camera and they are to small. A good excuse to upgrade my camera...

Take care

Leif
