Is flexwatt heat tape bendable?

mo-jord Feb 20, 2004 09:24 AM

Can you bend it to the point where you make a crease? A 90 degree bend for example. Or does it need to be a gentle bend more like an rolling bend (arch like versus "|_"

Thanks

I wouldn't see why you couldn't. Whenever I have a technical question I call Big Apple Herp. They have people that know everything about these types of questions. Just give them a call and ask away.

The electrical wiring inside the flexwatt is very fragile. Sharp bends in fragile wire are a bad idea. While you might have success on occasion, my experience has been:
Keep 'em relatively flat (or on gentle curves). Otherwise, you risk breaking the filaments inside.

Keep 'em well ventilated. Otherise, you risk overheating the surface they're on (you'd be surprised how little heat it takes to overheat glass and cause it to crack...)

Keep 'em on a thermostat/rheostat. Otherwise, you risk scorching your critters...

Hope this helps a bit! Just have been through this one a time or twelve too many...
