2 eggs

gerri Feb 20, 2004 10:32 AM

I need help. My box turtle (not sure of the breed) just layed 2 eggs and covered them up. They (male & female) are in a tank not outside. Do I have a chance for their survival??? Can someone help with incubating them without an incubator. I do not know much about this process and would like to save these little eggs so that my kids arent crushed if they dont survive.
Thanks much
Gerri

Hi Gerri!
First things first: don't move the eggs until you've gotten more info: "rolling" the eggs would be a bad thing.
Second, look through the archives while waiting for a response to your post: on the welcome page, under the title 'Box Turtle Forum' you will find the words Archives/Old Forums.
Click on that, and then scroll down to the heading for Turtle Forums, and click on Box Turtle Forum. If you type in "incubating eggs" into the search box on the old box turtle forum page, you will find many previous threads on the topic with lots of great info that you can peruse.
You can incubate the eggs without specialized equipment, but you will need to find a way to keep the temperatures and humidity fairly constant, and the eggs safe from being jostled, bumped, rolled or broken.
Check out the archives, they're a great resource.
Good Luck,
Stephanie

Thank you Stephanie. I actually found 4 eggs total and got some good advice on what to do with incubating them from the archive files as you suggested. I also contacted a local reptile adventure place here in Phoenix and they were very helpful as well. Thanks again!!

Good luck with the eggs and when they are born the babies. Do you have any plans for them or are you just keeping them?
