Bakers yeast

leif Feb 20, 2004 11:07 AM

Another newbie question.

I see many froggers adding a pinch of bakers yeast on top of the FF cultures. Is this the same yeast that you can buy in a grocery store, like Fleishman's active yeast? Or is it something different?

Thanks again!

Leif

Yup, that's it-- active dry yeast a.k.a. baker's yeast. Just be sure to only sprinkle a very small amount on top, as too much can have adverse effects on your ff production.

A little active yeast goes on top, and then use brewers yeast in the medium if you are making your own.

I found Brewer's Yeast at GNC. It's sold as a dietary supplement. Is this the right stuff?

It contains: Brewer's yeast, Psyllium husk powder, guar gum and citrus pectin powder.

Thanks

Doesn't sound like raw brewers yeast. I get mine from www.bulkfoods.com
