Tail thinning, but fat body?

Melle Feb 20, 2004 03:55 PM

Hello,

My three year old albino has always been a hefty girl ever since she got full sized. Her body has always been real chunky, and her tail was never exceptionally huge or anything, but it was thick. For the past few weeks though I noticed her tail is starting to get thinner, and she hasnt eaten in a while. But her body still remains fat. She seriously looks gravid, but I know she's not. and yet her tail is thinning. any one else ever have this happen?

I have seperated her today from her tank mates (she is housed with two other females.) and will probably get her into the vet. Usually parasites cause their tails to thin, right? and if she does have something, should i assume that both the tank mates already have whatever it is as well? One of the females eats like a machine, the other hasnt eaten in a little while, but its been normal for her to not eat for a week and then pig out for a few days. Thanks for any help!

Hi

If the vet. tells you there is something wrong with her, then yes, her other cage mates should be treated as well. You could ask the vet. at the same time you make the appointment, that if you bring in the weight of the other two incase everybody has to be medicated, would that be alright and then you only take the one in.

A lot of vet's. will try to help out that way. My vet. is another story with zilch in people skills.

Take Care, TLB

She's not impacted. She is housed on slate floor tile. Has been for a while now.
