Does anyone see a problem with using MH lighting for phelsuma. I use power compacts for most of my tanks; just feel the need for more lighting is all. Plus, it may do wonders for my moss and bromeliads.

I don't see any reason for you to switch to MH. The intensity of the light is too high for your gex and you're right, it will do wonders for the broms and moss. It will burn them to a crisp! Most bromeliads and virtually all mosses thrive in shade or indirect sunlight at best, they can't tolerate exposure to those levels of UV.

I think your compact fluoro setup is the better method of the two.

Actually, phelsuma rely on and prefer very strong lighting; atleast IME. Moss needs high light to thrive, so do some broms so i dont know where you read that.

you should be able to use this type of lighting effectively. if the tank is 6 feet long 2 100 watt fixtures from somewhere like wormsway (for instance) placed a safe distance from the cage and temp regulation. Should give you some killer vegitative light. keep in mind they do put off some heat. a 100 watt light should give you about 2 cubic feet of prime light. Go for it but be smart. do some research.
