Does Anyone Use Cobra Heat Mats IN the cage?

livxpreshun Feb 20, 2004 04:43 PM

Does anyone use cobra heat mats IN their leo's cages? Here is why I am asking:

I read that the T-Rex Cobra heat mats are designed to be used in or out of the cage. Well, I am going to be making a new shelf this weekend to hold sterilite cages and wanted to know if I could design it to use the cobra mats inside the cage. It would be a huge help as it is difficult to attach the mats to the bottom of the sterilites anyway - plus I would have to design a lift for the cage as the black connector on the heat mat would contact the shelf board and not allow the cage to rest properly. I already have the mats from my old glass tanks so I would prefer to use them instead of heat tape as I know they work and trust them. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

If it is inside it is going to produce tons of heat, so if your thermostat/rhetostat doesn't work well you could come home to cooked leos.

Also removing pads is a bad idea because the element can break and short out/catch fire/be unpredictable.

I have a 6'x2'x2' melamine display case that has several Cobra mats in it. TRex Cobra heat mats are the only ones to use in the cage. They warn about getting them wet but it has never been a problem. I use the heat in the back and the water bowls are in the front.
