Question on Building Rack w/Sterilite Containers

livxpreshun Feb 20, 2004 04:59 PM

I am planning on building a shelf this weekend to hold some 28 qt sterilite cages. To obtain good circulation, should I leave a small gap of 1/8 - 3/16 above the tank rims (between the sterilite and the next shelf) - OR - should I make the cage touch the next shelf (full seal), and drill holes and install a piece of screen in the front and back of the cage so air can pass through. Any difference between the two? I am leaning toward the full seal as I figure there would not be a risk of over heating the cage as long as I put enough holes/screen at the top edge of the cage to allow for heat to leave (and not build up) Any experience appreciated! Thanks!

Branching off your topic... why does everyone make their own racks? Isnt it easier just to buy? And my leo is in a sterlite container, with the lid and holes drilled in but it had a weird bad smell to it, so I put a screen lid on it. Also, the containter are shallow... wont the leos run out... mine does without a lid. what does everyone do?

it is so much cheaper to build your own racks, plus i like to build my own stuff that way it gets built the way i want it and not how someone else thinks it should be.. but i am thinking of getting a couple of those expanded PVC racks
