Hey...i just got back from the vet and everything looked good till a fecal was done. They said she has a parasite that can cause blood in the stool ect. (started with occ.) they gave me medicine to give to the lil one...but said it could harm the kidneys. any help you guys can give in regards to this matter would be great. why and where would she get the parasite from? she is the only lizard in my whole house...actually only animal in my house. how much damage can this do to my dragon? please give me details! thanks!

Ask the vet the name of the parasite, give us the name of the medication, amount being given and when given (1/2 times daily, for 1/2/3 weeks, like that), the weight of your dragon (The vet should have that if you don't have it handy. If he didn't weigh your dragon reecently, I'd ask them to weigh him to make sure he's getting the correct amount). If you can give us that information, we can help you more. Any medication if overdosed can harm the kidneys, drugs are really hard on their system.

ok here is the 411 on what i was told:

Female dragon/ 7.5 months old/ 222.5 grams/ 16 inches long

Fecal sample showed signs of Coccidiosis (i actually got to see it under the microscope and the vet also showed me the same parasite in a book in which he used as a reference).

Medical treatment: Albon Suspension .2cc by mouth once a day for 7 days.

The vet also recommended cleaning the entire tank along with removing any sand that i have with a solution of bleach and water (which has been mentioned on this board several times).

He also mentioned that Albon has been known to hurt thier kidneys if not kept well hydrated.

Please let me know what other steps I should take to getting her healthy. She shows great interest in eatting (eats a ton!) but comparing her weight to the charts ive seen, she seems a little lighter then most. Is that due to the parasites? Also -should i use a dropper with a certain amount of water a day to make sure that she is getting enough water. What amount of cc's is good for the beardie? I want to make sure that for the long road she remains healthy and happy and that this problem will not be present again. Thanks!
