Chameleon misting setup

John_Smith Feb 21, 2004 12:44 AM

I’ve tried a lot of different types of misting setups, from the habba mist to trying to spray by hand and using water pumps going to a spray nozzle. All of these sucked. What I finally did was use a sprinkler setup with my chameleon setup. With this I don’t ever have to refill anything, all u gotta do is set when u want it to go off and for how long.

Tools/supplys: all these can be bought from Home Depot
-Pvc cement glue(
-Pvc primer(
-Teflon tape($0.69-$0.99)
-3/4” pvc pipe( $2)
-3/4” water valve($10-$15) by Orbit
-Sprinkler timer($20) four station by Orbit
-Mister($15)
-Pvc connecters (always around $0.30)
-Water hose(if needed, $5- 15ft., $10-25ft.)
-Monkey wrench
-Hand saw( to cut pvc)

this whole entire setup should cost u about $65, that’s if u have to buy all the supplies but most people already have the hose, and maybe even the pvc primer and cement glue.

The first thing I did was cut a piece of pvc to go to the water faucet outside. For this u need to get a ¾” female connector (threading on the inside)so u can connect it to the faucet. If u want to spend a little more money, buy the connectors($1) that twist, so that when u connect the pvc to the faucet that the whole pvc doesn’t move but just the connector(like some hoses have) Use the primer at the end of ur pvc and let it dry, then add the cement glue and add the connector, make sure its on all the way so u don’t have any leaks. Add any elbows that u may need so that ur pvc becomes level with the ground so when u add the valve to it, it’s level to the ground also. (I have a spliter on the faucet so that im not using it just for my setup)Continuation on reply post…

At the end of the pvc, the one going to the valve ur gonna need to have a ¾” male connector ( threads on outside) and add the Teflon tape to it before twisting into the valve. If u can, try to put the valve near a plug so that ur valve will be connected to the timer and the timer is near a outlet. Of course u can always buy longer wiring. Make sure that the pvc is very tight on that valve so there will be no leaks, that is what the wrench is for. Hold the valve and twist the pvc. After the valve is attached, get another small piece of pvc and add a connector to each side. On side will need a male connector to go to the valve and the other will need a female to go to the end of a hose. After all the pvc piping is connected to the valve go ahead and connect the pvc to the faucet outside. This is when the twist connector comes in handy right now. So that the connector move and not all the pvc pipe and the valve. ……..

After u have the hose connected to the valve, run the hose wherever ur cage is and connect it to the mister. So that way u can move the cage where ever u want to and still have the hose connected, that’s why I have a 25’ hose connected to it. (The connection from the hose to the Crème mister comes with the mister)………….

Then wrap the mister around the tree(if u look close) and bam!!! All u gotta do now is set the timer for the misterand turn on the water. The mister can be set to four times a day and for up to 99 min.

The timer can have up to four valves and each will will go off at the same time for all the valves. But all u gotta have is a spliter at the end of the hose then have a bunch of misters hooked up to them for different cages. This will save u a lot of money. Instead of buying a lot of habba mists. It also has a manual if u want it to go off right then and there and other cool features.

If there is anything that u need cleared up(as i write this at 1-2 in the morning and im sure i left thing out and not making sense), just ask

That is awesome, thanks so much for sharing! We just finished our set-up, too, except we used a pump-up sprayer and several types of misting/dripping heads. Will post some pics of those.

What mister did you use? It looks like an Arizona Redi-Mist...

Thanks again!
