Armadillo Lizards

Mothi Feb 21, 2004 02:33 AM

Actually I am asking about Cordylus tropidosternum, which are often sold as Armadillo Lizards. But my questions are:
1. What forum, if any, is appropriate for posting questions about them? If there are no specific forum for them, I guess I'll have to hope someone can help me here.
2. At what age are they sexually mature? I am thinking about getting babies that were captive born...not captive bred.
3. How big a cage do 2 adults need? 20-gallon tank okay?
4. How often do I feed young ones? Once a day, once every other day? How often for adults?
5. Is it okay to house several of them if the cage size is adequte? Or do they prefer to be alone?
6. Any good caresheets available anyone wants to post? I have read some caresheets, but want to see if anyone knows others I haven't read yet.

Thanks.

I have 2 armadillo lizards. I don't think there is a specific forum for them. I believe they are mature at around 2 years. My 2 are in a 20 gallon tank, I believe they do fine in larger groups but I would add 5 gallons for each extra lizard, so 25 gallons for 3, 30 for 4... I fed my adults every other day, but I would recommend feeding babies every day. Mine eat crickets, superworms, and mealworms dusted with calcium twice a week and vitamins once a week. They are on sand right now in a pretty basic tank. They love to squeeze themselves into small spaces so I have a stack of rocks that they both hide in and sit on top of to bask. They don't need a large water dish, but when mine shed I put I bigger one in as they sit in it to help the shed. I don't know of any good caresheets, but if you have any more questions feel free to ask me.
Ellie.
