Salamander safe plants?

savagehart Jun 09, 2003 02:29 PM

hey guys and (to be politically correct) gals...i gotta question (duh!) ok, i'm getting eather a fire sali or a tiger sali, and i wanted to put live plants in the terrarium, are there any plants that anyone knows of that would be eather poisonous or unsafe to them???

It depends on the critter in the terrarium. One plant that is good for fire salamanders is Pothos (golden pothos, grows as a vine with variegated sort of heart-shaped leaves). It doesn't require much light. For tiger salamanders it (and any other plant) would make a good source of exercise as they bury it, dig it up and drag it around the terrarium and "replant" it leaves down.

I know exactly what you mean...I wake this morning there is a random leaf in the tank where I didn't plant it. Seems to have sprouted roots too. It's a easy plant to care for and it propagates itself nicely.

Will Pothos work well for dusky's too? These guys are streamside ones I caught myself...
