Look up "Glass" in the phone book. Measure tank. Drive to shop. Get glass cut to size. Pay. Drive home. Put glass on top of tank. Feed frogs. Watch frogs. Go to bed.

Ace Hardware sells and cut glasses for you. They have glass and aryclic plastic. Its fairly cheap too. A 10 gallon glass top would run about $8 i think, which is cheaper then those $16 ones you buy in the store. I bought my aryclic top for $4 because they cut it from a left-over piece.

I DID DO THAT HAD THEM CUT IT OUT PERFECTLY BUT WHEN I BROUGHT THE GLASS HOME I PUT ON MY TANK THEN PUT THE LIGHT FIXTURE RIGHT ON TOP OF IT AND TURN ON MY HUMIFIDER AND GUESS WHAT HAPPEN NEXT. THE GLASS DID NOT EVEN LAST A MINUTE IT POP AND BROKE INTO THREE PIECES. WHEN I CALLED THE PEOPLE WHO DID THE GLASS FOR ME THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE MY LIGHT WAS TO INTENSE AND THAT I NEEDED TO GET A HEAT RESISTANCE GLASS. SO I WASTED FIFTY DOLLARS ON THAT GLASS FOR NOTHING. SO I JUST NEED SOME ADVISE ON HOW TO SET UP THE LIGHTS SO IT WONT BREAK THE GLASS I GUESS.

what kind of light are you using? tring elevating the light from the glass a few inches or you could even get a acrylic top.

well i am using a reptile fixture that i bought from petsmart which have 3 compartments for one fluorescent light and two bulbs. the fluorescent light runs the whole lenght of the fixture and one bulb is at the right end and the other is at the left end of the fixture. the fluorescent light is 20 watts and the two bulbs are 60 watts each. and where could i get an acrlyic(spelling?) top at?

Ditch the incandescent lights. You don't need them, they run too hot and will probably lead to overheating problems anyway. If you try to run them on an acrylic top you'll have a disaster for sure - if not a fire.

At Home Depot, you can purchase screw-in compact fluorescent bulbs for incandescent fixtures rated at 6500 Kelvin (daylight). I am current using this set up on a planted ten gallon fish tank (2 bulbs in the fixture), and the quality of light looks exactly the same as that of the power compacts at the fish store...for about 1/25 of the price. Make sure you get the day light bulbs, however, as most of the compact fluorescent bulbs for incandescent fixtures give off terrible light, much like that of a regular incandescent bulb.
