ReptiSun 5.0 vs Super UV Coil lamp??

jack7777766 Jun 09, 2003 02:34 PM

Hi,
I currently have a reptiSun 5.0 bulb, which is what I think most people use to give their pets UVA/UVB rays. Anyways for my next herp I was thinking of getting the Super UV Coil Lamp since I dont have to buy one of those fixtures for it (Ill just use my clamp lamp) I was just wondering if its as good as the reptiSun bulbs, in terms of duration, right amounts of UV, how much area the UV light reaches (I have a feeling the coil bulb isnt as much), etc

So if you know any of this, pros and cons, etc Id appreciate it.

Thanks
Jack

Never heard of the brand you are speaking of, but it sounds like its a mecury vapor/active uv style bulb. Not all of those bulbs are equal, and they dont all produce the same amounts of uvb(uvb is your concern when chosing these bulbs). Many of these bulbs do produce more uvb than even the reptisun, but they have not all been proven for as long as the reptisun. Many people have problems with those style bulbs burning out. I like the reptisun overall........Performance/value/overall satisfaction by many people. Also you need to consider the amount of space that you will be using as the mvb style bulbs are better for larger areas where it is easier to get the heat gradient you need and basking spot using the high powered/high heat bulbs. Actually these are the new flourescent style light bulbs. It's made by esu. Many of these bulb makers are not honest about the output or get there percentages of outputs in different ways. These are only advertised as 3% uvb output wich isn't as much as the reptisun wich is trusted and known to give off more uvb then that. I would shell out the exta cash for a trusted well used and liked bulb the reptisun.
