Sexing Corns

spangles Feb 21, 2004 11:02 AM

i know we've all seen this post before...last time i posted it, many people suggested going to a reliable vet who has experience...unfortunatly, i called every single vet in my area (there are about 10 who work with reptiles) and none would sex a corn snake. some said they had the equiptment for bigger snakes, but that doesn't help me out much!! any suggestions at all?

can you post pics of its tail/cloacal region from the bottom? that would help, but if not you could find a reptile show that is going to be near you and contact any breeders who are going to see if they have the equipment and expirience to sex your snake. It shouldn't be too hard to find one unless there are no shows near you, if it is a hatchling then they could use the popping technique instead of probing but any larger than 18-20 inches and i would say that probing and pictures are the only way to go

Tail of males is longer and thick than female. But this is true for mature specimen, for young specimen must be used palpation method. Males have two long hemipenis, females - not.
